Is it just me, or was everyone shocked at the idiocy of the morons who run Booth Newspapers? Even after having to cut back to three times per week, the empty suits still do not get IT. Last Thursday, most high schools held their varstiy football games. I was excited to get my high school football fix with the Saginaw News and Flint Journal on Friday. That was not to happen. Booth Newspapers decided to wait and publish the stories on Sunday. Yes, that is three days after the events of Thursday. We will not have to look very far into the future to see the extinction of all print Booth Newspapers.
I would like to the the first person to congratulate Millington Football coach Tim Furno on 200 wins. Yes it is premature, but Millington has never lost to Bridgeport. Number 200 will come this Friday for my old coach.
This is odd to be saying this, but it was a pleasure to watch Marlette junior Brent Speer last Thursday. He is the best placekicker I have seen play high school football. He has two field goals this year. The one I saw from 32 yards, would have been good from 52 yards. He has also has about a 92% touchback ratio on kickoffs. He will get only better as the year progresses and moves into his senior year.
Caro senior running back Mike Daniel has carried the Tigers to a 2-0 start. The three-sport athlete is leading the Thumb in rushing, rushing attempts, and scoring. All this without playing football as a junior. I know Mike's father, and know how proud of him he must be. Good luck the rest of the way Mike.
Four teams in the Greater Thumb East have started 2-0. That number will drop to two after Friday as Ubly travels to Marlette and Brown City travels to Deckerville. I think Marlette will pull the mild upset. I say this because of history. Every time Ubly has won three games in a row, they have lost the fourth. Last year was the Bearcats third victory in a row, 2009 belongs to the Red Raiders. I am still not convinced by Brown City, look for Deckerville to move to 3-0.
If you did not have the opportunity to listen to Caro tennis coach Eddie Crosby on Let's Talk Sports last Saturday, listen to the second segment now at www.tuscolatoday.com. He was a great interview. Thanks again Eddie.
Good luck to all area athletes in this fall sports season.
