Thumb Area Record Book

I need your help. I have started a record book for Thumb Area sports. I have started with football. I scoured over the MHSAA website and realized there were some records not on the website. I have found other stats on the web but others are probably not. Take a look at the record book I have complied on the right side of the blog. Please send me email at christian@selich.net, if I have left a record off. I am just working on football at this time. Currently I only have rushing, passing, and receiving at this time. I am working on team stats as well.

MHSAA makes rule changes for fall sports

The MHSAA released a statement Thursday, Aug. 6 concerning rule changes for the upcoming 2009 fall sports season. The major football rules change by the National Federation of State High School for 2009 is that the horse-collar tackle has been added to the list of illegal personal fouls. Effective this season, it will be illegal to grab the inside back or side collar of the runner's shoulder pads or jersey and subsequently pull the runner to the ground. The penalty will be 15 yards from the succeeding spot. There are two other risk-minimization changes in 2009. One change will make it illegal to grasp an opponent's chin strap, in addition to the opponent's face mask or edge of a helmet opening. The national rules committee also made a significant change in an effort to reduce the risk of injury along the sidelines. A maximum of three coaches may be in the restricted area between the sideline and the restraining line to communicate with players during dead-ball s

VanWormer takes over in Frankenmuth

The following is a press release sent out by Frankenmuth High School Principal JoLynn Clark: Frankenmuth High School is proud to announce the hiring of Timothy VanWormer as the Eagles’ Head Varsity Football Coach. Tim was hired to teach at FHS in the fall of 2008, and he assumed an assistant coaching position on the Varsity football team last year. Prior to coming to FHS, Tim spent four years teaching and coaching at Athens High School. His teams saw great successes and increased participation as he led a 1-8 team his first year to a near-playoff record of 5-4 his last year there. Tim says the success of those teams was evident in the confidence that grew with the players as they improved. Prior to his time at Athens, Tim worked as a chemist/lab technician and coached for 10 years at Comstock at various levels: his first year as the Head Freshman Coach, second year as Head JV Coach, and eight years as Varsity Offensive Coordinator. During that time, Tim found his pas
