Vassar Rushes past Caro in 2nd Half

VASSAR - Vassar Head Coach Jason Kiss knew he needed to make adjustments at the half. His team was trailing 9-7, and getting beat badly on both sides of the ball. Coach Kiss decided to abandon his team's double tight end set and move to a more spread offense. His team responded by scoring 4 rushing touchdowns in the 2nd half to get a 36-21 win on their home field. Vassar opened the scoring in the 1st quarter on their 3rd play from scrimmage. Dontay Crist (11 carries 121 yards 2 TD) scampered to his left a ended up in the end zone 67 yards later. Vassar would only get one more play in the quarter. Caro took the ball and moved it down field behind the strength of their offensive line, anchored by Hallie Holmes. Caro's drive would stall at the 11 yard line, and they had to settle for a 16 yard Seth Kratz field goal. Vassar's next play resulted in an interception by quarterback Zach Germain. Caro promptly followed Holmes and the offensive line to down the field. This time hitti

Just In Time

Just in time for tonight's start of the high school football season. The podcast of the pregame show on Mix 92.1 is on-line. We recorded 3 segments last night at the newly renovated Studio 210 in downtown Vassar. Enjoy, relax, and listen to the Game of the Week tonight.

Caro at Vassar

I am back on-line. The summer went quickly. It is dark at 9pm. My kids are running around with their first cups. It must be football season. The Mix 92.1 high school football game of the week kicks off this Thursday, August 28 with the Caro Tigers at the Vassar Vulcans. I will be back on the air doing color along with my new play-by-play partner Derrick Bosely. Derrick is a new transplant from the UP (sound familiar), so give him a warm Thumb's Up. The Caro Tigers will invade the school named after the Roman god of fire to kick off the high school football season. In a series that has seen Caro dominate since 1955, Vassar has not loss since being shut out 19-0 on September 12, 2003. Vassar head coach Jason Kiss, in his 2nd year, has his team in the Greater Thumb West Conference, and primed to make the playoffs for the second time in school history. The first test for the Vulcans will be young and inexperienced Caro Tiger team in the 2nd year of the 2nd stint for Coach Al Boydston.

The rumors of my demise...

Are true! Yup, time for this saddle-sore podunk to hit the trails. I am leaving the Advertiser after two and a half years. I recently accepted a job offer from the Crawfordsville Journal Review (JournalReview.com) where I will cover high school, college and pro sports for a six-day-a-week newspaper. The city is about 45 minutes from Indianapolis and 30 minutes south of Purdue University. So I will get my fill of Colts, Pacers, Boilermakers, Hoosiers along with some Cubs and White Sox poured in for good measure. My last day at the TCA is this Friday and I start at the JR next Monday. In my leave, Chad Wingert will fill-in as interim Sports Editor at the paper while Christian Selich is still searching for a partner for radio broadcasts. The two of them, along with the Lapeer County Press' Andrew Selich and Bryan Bassett, along with Advertiser freelancer photographer Chris Wilcox will still be a part of the Pre-Game Show on Mix 92.1FM. I won't be gone completly, as I will help wit
