Monday Soccer Roundups

The Saginaw News, September 28, 2009 8:59 p.m. When Frankenmuth got a shot on goal, it went in, as the Eagles overcame a 1-0 deficit at the half to beat North Branch 3-2 in boys soccer on the road Monday. Kramer Trombley knotted the score at 1 in the second half, while Cameron Lail made it 2-1 Eagles and Lucas Bade's header into the net served as the insurance goal since the Broncos added their final marker with six minutes left. "I'm proud of the guys to come from behind in less than ideal circumstances," said Frankenmuth coach John Ayala, whose team is now 12-2 overall and, most importantly, 9-0 in the Tri-Valley East. "Because of the terrible playing conditions, many times both teams had their attacks stymied. There was standing water on the field." It was the second Frankenmuth win of the season over North Branch, and

Christian's Cerebrations

We have a huge week in Thumb Football especially the Tri-Valley East. First up is Caro (3-1) at North Branch (3-1). Dare I say this is a must win for either school's playoff chances. For the sake of argument, I will give Caro wins in their games versus Tawas Area and Cass City, which means they have to win one of these three games - North Branch, Essexville-Garber (3-1), and Millington (4-0). Since Caro has to travel to North Branch and Millington, that would give them home-field advantage against the Dukes, whom they have lost five straight against. North Branch has a gimme victory in Week 7 versus Bridgeport. A win this week would leave them with needing a victory in one of the following games - Ogemaw Heights (3-1), Millington, or Yale (3-1). North Branch should win this week and probably sneak by Yale to get in the playoffs. My prediction for Caro is 4-5 with the fourth victory coming in Week 9 versus Cass City. Next up, Millington travels to Essexville-Garber to decide
