Birch Run 49 - Millington 37 - The Lady Cardinals had a two point lead going into the fourth quarter and were outscored 17-3 in the final quarter. Rachel Lawe scored a team-high 12 points for Millington. The Cardinals fall to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the TVC-East.

Reese 67 - Marlette 41 - The Rockets took a commanding 16 point first quarter lead and never looked back. Amber Gotham led Reese with 16 points, four rebounds, and seven assists. Jordan Kiser had 12 points and two rebounds, while Sarah Spiekerman had eight points and 10 rebounds. Amara Wilson led all scorers with 24 points, including 15 in the third quarter. Freshman Jenna Hirsch contributed six points and eight rebounds for Marlette, who falls to 2-2. The win keeps Reese's record perfect at 3-0.

Mayville 50 - Cass City 38 - Having a week off did not hurt coach Tom Elenbaum's Mayville five as they improved their record to 2-0. Chelsea Roehl led the Wildcats with 18 points, while Amy Elenbaum scored 10 points. Megan Parrish scored 16 points for Cass City, while McKensie Parrish scored 11 points. The loss drops Cass City's record to 0-4.

North Branch 56 - Caro 24 - Caro went scoreless in the first quarter and never recovered. Kayla Snoblen and Morgan Vauter led all scorers with 14 points. Rayenne Kaiser contributed to the win as well with 12 points. Emily Koehler led Caro with seven points. North Branch improves to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the TVC-East, while Caro drops to 1-2 and 1-1.

USA 56 - Ubly 34 - USA picked up their first victory of the season in four attempts. Brittany Gruehn scored 15 points, while Miranda Fuerst scored 12 points. Jenny Williamson and Jessica Gremel each scored 10 points.

Boys Scoreboard

North Huron 66 - Kingston 42 - Joe Strauel scored 12 points for the 0-2 Cardinals. Nolan Kolacz chipped in with 11 points.

North Branch 66 - Caro 50 - The Broncos used a 21-8 advantage in the third quarter to pull away from the Tigers. Ryan Kosko led all scorers with 20 points, while Chris White added 15 points with three 3-point buckets. Doug Griffin added six points and 10 rebounds. Pat Bishop led Caro with 14 points, while Jared Vinson added 12 points. North Branch moved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in TVC-East play, as Caro drops to 1-1 and 0-1.

Birch Run 64 - Millington 50 - Kyle Currie led Millington with 13 points as his team dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in TVC-East play.

Buena Vista 75 - Frankenmuth 25 - Luke Bade led the Eagles with eight points, while Kent Redford scored six points. The loss drops from Frankenmuth to 1-1 overall.

Still talkin' football

First top ten of the year. After Friday's opening games, the TCA released it's first Area Top ten of the young season. In association with four area coaches, representing the four area conferences, along with the sports staff of the TCA, here it is: 1. Millington (1-0) 53 pts (2) 2. Reese (1-0) 52 pts (2) 3. USA (1-0) 45 pts 4. Frankenmuth (1-0) 37 pts (1) 5. Birch Run (1-0) 32 pts (1) 6. Marlette (1-0) 19 pts 7. Ubly (0-1) 17 pts 7. Harbor Beach (1-0) 17 pts 9. Cass City (1-0) 12 pts 10. Garber (1-0) 11 pts All of this will ofcourse settle itself out as the week goes on, but I think the biggest surprise is the fall of Ubly after the opening game loss to USA. Word out of the Thumb is that Bearcat QB Jordan Kaufman broke his collarbone and is out for 7 to 8 weeks, which essentially is the entire season. Ubly must now rely upon a sophomore quarterback to lead them in the GTE, which could open things up for Harbor Beach and Marlette to take the reigns in the conference. As for

The Big Game.

Here it is. Well, it's here...the game that everyone around here has been looking forward to all season long. Frankenmuth at Millington. Both teams are 7-0 (6-0 TVC-E) and the Cardinals and the Eagles could not be more evenly matched. They have the exact same number of playoff points (85.714) at this point of the season; both teams blew out Vassar and held the Vulcans without a defensive TD (kickoff return against the Eagles and punt return vs the Cards); both teams blew out Bridgeport and North Branch. And both teams had to play their best to hold off Garber (Muth won 17-7 at Muth while Millington won 20-14 at Garber). One game where things were different was when both played Birch Run. Muth had to use a last minute field goal to win 23-20 while Millington blew out the Panther 45-17, both games played in Birch Run.
