Girls

Frankenmuth 64 - Caro 28 - The Lady Eagles stay undefeated and in first place in TVC-East play. Taylor Wood scored 11 points, while Sam Cormier added 10 points and five assists in the win. Emily Koehler led Caro with 11 points.

North Branch 42 - Millington 33 - North Branch outscored Millington by nine points in the second half for the victory. Samantha Waterman paced the Lady Broncos with 15 points. North Branch is now 5-1 in the TVC-East, 1/2 game behind Frankenmuth. Alexis Reinert paced Millington with 10 points, seven steals, and five rebounds.

Boys

Frankenmuth 51 - Caro 46 - The Eagles earned their first TVC-East victory of the season, while Caro stayed winless on the road. Kent Redford scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Eagles. Tim Faris scored 11 points, while Luke Bade added six points, three assists, and eight rebounds. Pat Bishop led the Tigers with 12 points, while Tommy Matuszak added 11 points.

North Branch 77 - Millington 76 - The Bronco's Ryan Kosko hit two free throws with five seconds remaining in overtime to seal the victory for North Branch. Kosko scored 19 points. Kyle Cline scored a game-high 21 for North Branch. Millington had five people score in double figures. Mike Tisdale led the way with 17 points, while Cameron Wilson and Kyle Currie scored 13 points apiece. Josh Williams added 12, and Zach Stewart scored 10 points.

USA 46 - Reese 44 - Josh Lakie drove the length of the floor for a layup with 10 seconds remaining to give the Patriots the victory. Clint Krueger finished with a team-high 18 points, as Lakie ended with 15 points. Josh Pickell paced the Rockets with 24 points, nine steals, and four assists.

Vassar 61 - Cass City 58 - The Redhawks gave the Vulcans a scare in the Mix 92.1 Game of the Week. Garrett Troike scored a game-high 17 points to pace Vassar. Troy Hecht added 16 points, four assists, and six rebounds, while Ryan Amend added 14 points. Cass City had four people score in double digits. Paul Rubey led the way with 15 points. Justin Ketterer scored 16 (10 in the first quarter), dished out three assists, and grabbed five rebounds. Alex Varney scored 14 points, while Cameron Dunnuck added 10 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.

Deckerville 59 - Mayville 48

Harbor Beach 67 - Marlette 49

Owendale-Gagetown 55 - Kingston 50 - Nick Zaleski had his second 20 point performance of the week to pace the Bulldogs. Zaleski finished with a game-high 20 points, while Ryan Francis scored 19 points. Taylor Nicol scored 12 points to lead the Cardinals. Terry Edwards scored 11 points, and Joe Strauel added five points and nine assists.

Still talkin' football

First top ten of the year. After Friday's opening games, the TCA released it's first Area Top ten of the young season. In association with four area coaches, representing the four area conferences, along with the sports staff of the TCA, here it is: 1. Millington (1-0) 53 pts (2) 2. Reese (1-0) 52 pts (2) 3. USA (1-0) 45 pts 4. Frankenmuth (1-0) 37 pts (1) 5. Birch Run (1-0) 32 pts (1) 6. Marlette (1-0) 19 pts 7. Ubly (0-1) 17 pts 7. Harbor Beach (1-0) 17 pts 9. Cass City (1-0) 12 pts 10. Garber (1-0) 11 pts All of this will ofcourse settle itself out as the week goes on, but I think the biggest surprise is the fall of Ubly after the opening game loss to USA. Word out of the Thumb is that Bearcat QB Jordan Kaufman broke his collarbone and is out for 7 to 8 weeks, which essentially is the entire season. Ubly must now rely upon a sophomore quarterback to lead them in the GTE, which could open things up for Harbor Beach and Marlette to take the reigns in the conference. As for

The Big Game.

Here it is. Well, it's here...the game that everyone around here has been looking forward to all season long. Frankenmuth at Millington. Both teams are 7-0 (6-0 TVC-E) and the Cardinals and the Eagles could not be more evenly matched. They have the exact same number of playoff points (85.714) at this point of the season; both teams blew out Vassar and held the Vulcans without a defensive TD (kickoff return against the Eagles and punt return vs the Cards); both teams blew out Bridgeport and North Branch. And both teams had to play their best to hold off Garber (Muth won 17-7 at Muth while Millington won 20-14 at Garber). One game where things were different was when both played Birch Run. Muth had to use a last minute field goal to win 23-20 while Millington blew out the Panther 45-17, both games played in Birch Run.
