Spring Sports Preseason Rankings

The baseball and softball spring preseason rankings have just been posted by the each respective coaches association. While we do not have any baseball teams ranked by the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association, you have a chance to see in the #1 ranked team in Division 3 (Saginaw Nouvel Catholic Central) play a few Tuscola County teams this spring. The Pathers travel to Millington to take on Coach Dipzinski and the Cardinals on April 03. On May 22 Coach Beagle and the Patriots of USA travel to Saginaw. Lastly NCC will be in Vassar on May 27 to take on Coach Baldwin and the Vulcans.

Sorry Wildcat fans, I missed you ranked at #9 in Division 3. You can check out Mayville's season schedule here. The Mayor is not going to like that omission.

Speaking of the Patriots, Unionville-Sebewaing Area girls softball team begins the season ranked #1 in Division 3 by the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association. Coach Houthoofd and his Lady Patriots are looking for a 3-Peat State Championship on the backs of returning All-Staters Carly Teiber (Junion-Catcher), Marissa LeMere (Senior-Pitcher), and Dani Gremel (Junior-Third Base).

I see Allen Park Cabrini who went undefeated last year in D4 is ranked second in D3's preseason poll. I heard through a very reliable source that USA contacted Cabrini to get a game set up between the two schools this spring and Cabrini wanted nothing to do with it. Kudos to Coach H. for trying to get a tougher schedule.

CMU Chippewa Wynn Michalak from Caro will be wrestling for a national title tomorrow in the 197 weight class. I believe ESPN will be covering the finals so I hope the whole thumb will be watching and cheering him on tomorrow.

Good Luck Wynn.
