District Final Previews

North Branch and Caro will square off for the third time this year in the Class B District Final taking place at Croswell-Lexington. The game which will be heard on Mix 92.1 will be the rubber match in this years series. North Branch (10-12) won the first meeting of the season in Caro (5-16) by a score of 42-35. Kelsey Roloson led the Lady Broncos with nine points, six rebounds, and seven steals. Despite shooting just 19-42 from the free-throw line, it was the ten point advantage from the charity stripe that gave the Broncos the edge. Amanda Ellis and Vanessa Taylor each scored 11 points.

In the second game of the season, Amanda Ellis scored a game-high 21 points as Caro beat the host 45-37. Lydia Koehler contributed with 17 points and six rebounds. North Branch was led by Morgan Vauter and Taylor Kaiser's eight points.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Caro advanced to the finals with a 64-52 win over Millington. North Branch beat Croswell-Lexington in the first round 53-44 and then beat Vassar 31-27 to advance to the finals.

I think that North Branch is the better team, and will win this district in a close game. Look for a 41-39 victory by the Broncos.

Frankenmuth will take on Freeland in the Class B District Final at Essexville-Garber. Freeland (16-5) won the only match-up this year with Frankenmuth (15-6) 47-45 in Freeland back in January. In that game, the only lead that Freeland had was their last second free throws to pull out the two-point win. Kelsey Ritter led the Eagles with 12 points.

Frankenmuth received and first round bye and beat Essexville-Garber 64-43 to advance to the finals. Freeland also received a bye and then beat Bangor John Glenn 62-52 to set up the rematch with Frankenmuth.

Look for Frankenmuth to avenge the early season loss and win this game 54-43.

In the Class C District Final at Memphis, Marlette will take on Sandusky for the third time this year. Marlette (7-15) lost the previous meetings this year 42-39 on January 7th and 41-28 on February 3rd. In the first match-up Amara Wilson scored 15 points and Jenna Thompson had nine. In match-up number two, Marlette was struck with flu bug as two starters could not play.

Sandusky (17-4) received a bye in the first round and then beat Brown City 54-48 to advance to the finals. Marlette has beaten Dryden 58-45 and Burton-Bentley 51-39 to advance.

It is hard to beat a team three-times in a season, but Sandusky will win this game 49-38.

It IS hard to beat a team three times in a season- just ask Millington's girls.

No No, sorry. I didn't mean that in a mean way at all.
This match-up was close all year long, and Millington came JUST short of beating Caro for a third time in District play. It just didn't happen.
- I just think it does go to show that beating a team three times really is quite the feat.
