Caro at Vassar
I am back on-line. The summer went quickly. It is dark at 9pm. My kids are running around with their first cups. It must be football season. The Mix 92.1 high school football game of the week kicks off this Thursday, August 28 with the Caro Tigers at the Vassar Vulcans. I will be back on the air doing color along with my new play-by-play partner Derrick Bosely. Derrick is a new transplant from the UP (sound familiar), so give him a warm Thumb's Up.
The Caro Tigers will invade the school named after the Roman god of fire to kick off the high school football season. In a series that has seen Caro dominate since 1955, Vassar has not loss since being shut out 19-0 on September 12, 2003. Vassar head coach Jason Kiss, in his 2nd year, has his team in the Greater Thumb West Conference, and primed to make the playoffs for the second time in school history. The first test for the Vulcans will be young and inexperienced Caro Tiger team in the 2nd year of the 2nd stint for Coach Al Boydston.
This a very good rivalry game that extends every since 1955 and beyond. They have never met this early in the season and this is the first time they have met as non-conference opponents. Caro holds a 35-17-1 record against the Vulcans since 1955, while out scoring Vassar by an average of 22.2 to 11.7. As I said though, Caro has not won since 2003, and I do not expect them to win this year either. Vassar is returning 11 starters from a 5-4 squad last year, including 2nd year quarterback Zach Germain. Caro is young and inexperienced. Look for Vassar to win the opener 27-7.
Update - Join us at halftime of the game, I will be interviewing Chuck Fabbro, boys basketball head coach at Vassar.
Other Games and Predictions
AuGres-Sims over Akron-Fairgrove
Sandusky over Cass City
Saginaw Swan Valley over Frankenmuth
Marlette over Kingston
Dryden over Mayville
Millington over Alma
Imlay over North Branch
Owendale-Gagetown over Arenac Eastern
Reese over Houghton Lake
Ubly over USA

I was thinking that this blog might have gone dead after Sicotte split to Indiana.
On your picks, the only one that surprises me is Sandusky over Cass City. What makes you...and quite a few others... believe that the Red Skins are back? Do they have all the players back that can come back from last year? If yes, then that's great. Its a little boring with just Deck., HB and Ubly duking it out. The Red Skins used to be as good as any of them.
We're actually going to record a podcast Wednesday night, just in time for the beginning of the HS football season.
We lost our moderator, as Jon Sicotte knew when to abandon a sinking ship (this blog...not the paper...it's a JOKE!!)
Check us out all through the season.

Guess I should have been a little more to the point. Caro is young and inexpierenced at the skilled positions.
