Caro - Madi Campbell scored 20 points during the Tigers two losses in the week. Jared Vinson had some bite behind his snarl this week, which saw him score 26 points, including 20 in a win over St. Louis.

Frankenmuth - Jenny McCain scored 11 points in the Lady Eagles only game of the week. Luke Bade had an all around game for the boys scoring 18 points, grabbing 12 rebounds, and three assists.

North Branch - Rayenne Kaiser was bucking all week as she scored 26 points in a win and a loss, including 20 in a win against Caro. Ryan Kosko scored 32 points during the week, while teammate Kyle Cline was just as wild, scoring 29 points.

Millington - Chelsea Luedtke was the only Lady Cardinal that was flying high this week with 23 points, including scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in a win over Birch Run. Kyle Currie scored 26 points in two losses for the male squad.

Owendale-Gagetown - Christy Schmidt scored 24 points in the Lady Bulldog dual losses. Nick Zaleski was the Top Dog with a weekly triple-double. Zaleski scored 52 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and dished out 13 assists.

Akron-Fairgrove - Sarah Crane led the Viking charge with 26 points, 17 rebounds, six steals, and seven assists. Josh Repkie scored 26 points and added 15 rebounds lead the charge for the boys squad.

Marlette - Amara Wilson scored 25 points in a win and a loss, while teammate Jenna Hirsch added 24 points.

Reese - Jade Ackerman scored 22 points in a win and a loss for the Lady Rockets. Josh Pickell scored 39 points in two losses.

Cass City - Megan Parrish scored 22 points, while sister McKensie scored 25 to help the Red Hawks to a win and a loss. Justin Ketterer soared above all other Red Hawks this week as he scored 46 points as his team swooped down to get two victories. Teammate Jeff Mulrath added 23 points in the week.

USA - Jenny Williamson stood strong this week with 27 points, while Chelsey Ewald added 25 points.

Vassar - Kayla Verbeek was on fire all week scoring 32 points, including a 14 point 10 rebound performance in a win over #7 Reese. Ryan Amend got the boys squad back on track with a 24 point performance, while teammate Troy Hecht added 18 points.

Mayville - Tessa Buehl and Chelsea Roehl eached scored 22 points in the Lady Wildcats two losses.

Kingston - Emily Chambers scored 15 points in the Lady Cardinals only game of the week. Joe Strauel scored 28 points in the week, as Taylor Nicol added 21 points.

Our Tabloid Celebrity of the week is .... Vassar's Kayla Verbeek who had a huge week, especially in their victory over #7 Reese. The boy's victor is Mr. Triple Double - Nick Zaleski. Zaleski had a triple-double this week in the Bulldogs two victories.

Still talkin' football

First top ten of the year. After Friday's opening games, the TCA released it's first Area Top ten of the young season. In association with four area coaches, representing the four area conferences, along with the sports staff of the TCA, here it is: 1. Millington (1-0) 53 pts (2) 2. Reese (1-0) 52 pts (2) 3. USA (1-0) 45 pts 4. Frankenmuth (1-0) 37 pts (1) 5. Birch Run (1-0) 32 pts (1) 6. Marlette (1-0) 19 pts 7. Ubly (0-1) 17 pts 7. Harbor Beach (1-0) 17 pts 9. Cass City (1-0) 12 pts 10. Garber (1-0) 11 pts All of this will ofcourse settle itself out as the week goes on, but I think the biggest surprise is the fall of Ubly after the opening game loss to USA. Word out of the Thumb is that Bearcat QB Jordan Kaufman broke his collarbone and is out for 7 to 8 weeks, which essentially is the entire season. Ubly must now rely upon a sophomore quarterback to lead them in the GTE, which could open things up for Harbor Beach and Marlette to take the reigns in the conference. As for

The Big Game.

Here it is. Well, it's here...the game that everyone around here has been looking forward to all season long. Frankenmuth at Millington. Both teams are 7-0 (6-0 TVC-E) and the Cardinals and the Eagles could not be more evenly matched. They have the exact same number of playoff points (85.714) at this point of the season; both teams blew out Vassar and held the Vulcans without a defensive TD (kickoff return against the Eagles and punt return vs the Cards); both teams blew out Bridgeport and North Branch. And both teams had to play their best to hold off Garber (Muth won 17-7 at Muth while Millington won 20-14 at Garber). One game where things were different was when both played Birch Run. Muth had to use a last minute field goal to win 23-20 while Millington blew out the Panther 45-17, both games played in Birch Run.
