2008-09 All-Thumb boys team announced

A photo shoot was held last evening at USA for members of the first team of the TSA's 2008-09 All-Thumb Boys Basketbal Team. It was our first venture into doing something of this magnitude and it was a huge success.
Thanks to USA Mark Gainforth for all his help in making this a reality. Congratulations to the players who were named First Team. All of you are deserving of this honor. (Ubly's Jordan Kaufman was also First Team....he was out of town with his family on vacation and unable to attend the photo shoot).
While it is now obvious who the first team is, to find out who is on the second team and who received honorable mentions, as well as who won the individual awards, you'll have to check out the Wednesday, April 8th edition of your local newspaper, as well as this blog, where photos that did not make the paper will be posted.

Don't like the Reinert kid for first team in the area... Summerset was way more dominant in a tougher conference from top to bottom.. No offense, but Reinert was a decent player on a 3-18 team.. I could think of many more deserving kids than him that should be on the team. All of the other kids were great players on great teams, league chamionship teams.. MAybe some Millington bias??

It sounds like you may have a little Cass City bias. I think this is a very good team.
To both anon's, I went to the meeting as an observer when both the girls and boys teams were chosen. In my opinion, I think the TSA got it right with all twelve players. I think they picked the six best boys and six best girls in the Thumb. At the meeting all voting members did not have any concerns with 12 student-athletes.

To anon #1, IMO I would choose Jake Holland over Chris Summerset. I just think he was the more dominant players, especially when you look at head-to-head match up.

To both anon's, I do not think there is any bias from the voters. All of them vote to who they see the most and then take suggestions from colleagues.

IMO the only argument someone can have with either team is POTY with the boys. I believe the person who had the best season won the award, not the best player in the Thumb. Unfortunately Bitzer did not play the whole season and that fact played into consideration for the voters.

thanks Christian.. I really liked Summerset, Holland from USA or Pickell from Reese. (if he was eligible). not sure.. Even Caro's Fritz with the double double he avg. I really don't have any ill will towards Reinert I just didn't think he was more deserving than any of the other players. Great football player and maybe that had an effect on some of the voting. The kid is a class act. I'm also not questioning anyone's integrity. Just an opinion. thanks again.

Bitzer played 18 games and was obviously the better player in the head to head match up. It looks like there was a Sanilac county bias. Much more is involved in basketball than just scoring and when you look at all the stats and the fact that a 5'10" point guard had 7 plus rebounds per game it shows you how much of a total player Bitzer is.

Seen Bitzer play a few times. In the close games I saw he refused to lose. Didn't see the North Huron boy play but I seen all the rest play. If you saw Bitzer in the Ubly game where he had to leave then came back. Tough kid that doesn't look like he can play until the game actually starts. Bitzer also had to try to live up to his brother's repuation the most famous b-baller in the last 8 years or so from the thumb. That is some added pressure that I'm sure he put on himself. Brown City boys are both good players as well.
