BCS is total B.S....and other stuff.
What now!? After the most topsy-turvy college football season came to a close last night, fans are now left to wonder what happens now.
Eight teams are left with legitimate claims to being able to play in the National Championship game, but unfortunately for the fans, none of this will be decided on the field.
The BCS system is totally ridiculous...unlike some of the more recent years, there is no clear-cut No. 1 and No. 2 teams to fight it out in the BCS-appointed National Championship game. Tonight, we will find out who is left when all the dust has settled when the BCS selection show airs on FOX, and as soon as the two teams picked to play for the big game are announced, the rest of the nation will be left wondering why.
Why is it that one of the country's most popular sports is left as the only one where a true champion is not decided on the field? Why is that almost every year, two to three teams who are deserving are left out of a shot at the National Title? Why is that the BCS continues to survive when it is obvious to everyone except those in charge that the system does not work?
After this past Saturday's losses, with Missouri falling to Oklahoma and with West Virginia losing to a weak Pittsburgh team; the pack for the BCS to choose from is loaded with one and two loss teams, except for one.
Hawaii is 12-0. Before you say, how can you possibly select the Rainbow Warriors, I have two words for you--Boise State.
Last year, Boise St. had a great year, but was left out of the title game and was forced to play and defeat Oklahoma. Is there any doubt in anyone's mind that the Broncos could have at least made a better game out of it with Florida than Ohio St managed to do? The Buckeyes were blown out by the Gators, and I'm willing to bet money that Boise St. could have held their own against Florida.
So, why not give Hawaii the same chance? They are the lone 12-0 undefeated team in Division I (or whatever they call it now), they are led by a great QB in Colt Brennan that probably 80 percent of the country hasn't even had the chance to see play a game this season. Hawaii is deserving of a chance.
But that's the problem....Hawaii is an unknown commodity, and the BCS is chosen by people who haven't seen the Warriors play this year.
The shame is that it sounds like Ohio St (who struggled through the Big Ten and were easily defeated by Illinois a mere three weeks ago) is going to go the Big Game again.
The BCS doesn't award the best team with a trip to the National Title game....it merely picks the two teams who are playing the best football when the season ends.
It's time to end this charade and start a playoff. It works at every other level of sports, including every other level of college football. It's time Division I did the same.
Miles jilts UM. As of yesterday morning, it sounded as if UM had secured LSU coach Les Miles as the successor of Lloyd Carr in Ann Arbor.
Then, the entire event took a huge 180, and now it looks as though Miles is staying at LSU.
Doesn't matter to me anyway....I want the Wolverines to go after Brian Kelley, but here's betting that they don't.
